What started out over 27 years ago as an effort to help a few of our state's medical specialty societies better organize their activities has become a major focus for AMNJ.  The Academy presently provides varying levels of office management, educational expertise and guidance, and secretarial services to 30 organizations representing 10,000 New Jersey physicians and health care professionals.
The major advantage to the various organizations is that they now have a permanent address, telephone number, and professional staff available on a full-time basis.  This arrangement provides continuity that was not available in the past, since most of these organizations changed their address each year or two as new officers were elected.
In addition, the different groups benefit from the cost savings of group purchasing and sharing of modern office equipment and technology, trained personnel, etc.  The societies are able to benefit from a cross-fertilization of ideas between groups, particularly when a common problem might present itself to more than one specialty.
This management service has been offered by The Academy of Medicine of New Jersey since 1973. One of the secrets of its success is that individual staff members with medical backgrounds are assigned to specific groups. This approach, plus the utilization of modern association management techniques, provides an efficient professional service at a non-profit price.
The major benefit this service provides to medicine is that the officers of the societies can spend their valuable time on matters pertaining to the objectives of the organization and not be concerned with administrative detail.  This facet has become even more significant as various external forces are increasing their attempts to regulate the private practice of medicine.
Further information on the Academy's management services can be obtained by contacting the AMNJ executive offices.
